A man who suffered serious injuries after he attempted to intervene in a fight between friends has obtained compensation.
He was hit in the jaw and fell to the floor, losing consciousness. He suffered a broken nose, bruising to his face, and damage to four teeth which required extensive dental treatment.
He brought a claim for compensation for his injuries. However, the defendant denied liability and repeatedly stated that the man should withdraw his claim because it had no chance of success.
It was only after court proceedings were issued and a settlement offer made on the man's behalf that the defendant entered into negotiations. These led to the claim being settled for a five-figure sum.
